Your Memory Portrait Questions Answered

Get all your questions answered to create a beautiful portrait that captures your treasured memories.

Do I need to be a funeral home to place an order?

We are primarily a wholesale business aimed at providing portraits for funeral homes, and as such, you will need to be a funeral home with an account to place an order through our form.

However, we are also happy to provide portraits to individuals at retail as needed. Please call us Toll Free at (877) 486-6396 for an estimate and we will be happy to assist you.

Are you able to do special requests?

Generally speaking, the talented artists at Memory Portraits are capable of accommodating almost any special request you might have.

Please note that we are legally unable to use trademarked characters, most logos, and images illegally taken from the internet. In these cases, we will try to create your portrait with images that can be used legally while still fulfilling the essence of the request.

What type of photo should I submit?

Photos should generally be scanned at 100% with a 300 dpi resolution, but smaller photos might need to be as much as 1200 dpi. JPEG images are generally fine but they are always saved at the highest-quality setting.

Please remember that portraits require a much higher-quality image than an obituary. Instead of using one image for both, consider scanning the photo twice with the appropriate resolution for each.

Can you use damaged photos for memory portraits?

In some cases, we may be able to use slightly damaged photos for memory portraits. However, the quality of the final portrait will depend on the extent of the damage. Minor tears, scratches, or faded colors might be repairable. If you have a damaged photo and are unsure if it can be used, contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss your options.

What is the difference between DPI and image size? How do they affect my memory portrait?

DPI (dots per inch) refers to the resolution of a scanned image, indicating how much detail is captured. A higher DPI means a sharper image. Image size refers to the physical dimensions of the image (e.g., inches or centimeters). For memory portraits, a higher DPI (around 300 dpi for average photos) is crucial for a clear and detailed final product, even if the image size is small.

I'm not sure what file format my photo is in (e.g., TIF, JPEG). Does it matter?

Yes, the file format can affect the quality of your memory portrait. TIF files are generally preferred because they offer lossless compression, meaning no detail is lost during the saving process. JPEGs, while convenient for uploading, compress the image, which can lead to a loss of quality. If possible, use a TIF file.

Can you edit out unwanted elements from my photo, like people in the background?

Yes, in many cases, our skilled artists can edit out unwanted elements from your photo, such as people in the background. Please note your specific needs when placing your order.

I have a specific vision for my memory portrait. Can you add things like a different background or clothing?

Absolutely! We are happy to accommodate special requests whenever possible. This could include adding a different background, changing clothing, or even adding other elements to the portrait. Please note that some customizations may incur an additional fee.

How long does it take to create a memory portrait after I submit my photo?

The creation time for a Memory ortrait can vary depending on the complexity of the request. However, all orders are completed same day and either shipped or provided to you as a printable digital file.

What are the different framing options available for memory portraits?

We offer a variety of framing options to complement your memory portrait. Check out our framing page to see all of our available options.

Can I get a digital copy of my memory portrait in addition to the physical one?

Yes, we provide a digital preview of your memory portrait along with the physical one. Please inquire about digital file options when placing your order.
